Our story dates back to 1981 in country where our idea was born…Brazil! It wasCaue’s father Joao Suplicy who deserves the credit. He started dehydrating delicious organic bananas from their backyard in Curitiba when Caue was a just little youngster.

Barnana sold its first product on April 12, 2012 - we mark this as the day that the Super Potassium Snack® was born. Why did we start a banana company? Simple! Bananas are natures perfect fruit and we wanted to bring back the fun in bananas! You know it’s impossible to frown while saying banana? try it! Not only are bananas delicious, they are also the #1 selling fruit in the US. That was enough to convince us to start a banana business.

We grew pretty quickly, after just one year in business Barnana® can be found in over 1,500 retailers nationwide including Whole Foods, Safeway, Sprouts, Wegmans, and many others. Along with growing distribution in Japan and Canada. With a mission of providing healthier snacking options to our community members. We have disrupted many aspects of the burgeoning Banana market including packaging, advertising, PR, and merchandising. And the party is only getting started.

We’re a privately held company with an obsession for Bananas. Our vision is to become the brand synonymous with banana snacks and we are well on our way! Our culture is very much in sync with this sentiment

How did you earn your first sales? Which channels are now generating the most traffic and sales for you?

Honestly, our first sale was to family and friends, the only ones crazy enough to belief in us.

Today we generate the majority of our revenue through our 2,000 + retail partners currently carrying Barnana!

We are very proud to have launched the 2 newest additions to the Barnana line up, Peanut Butter and Coconut, exclusively on Shopify before they become available in retail stores. We utilized the Shopify promo codes to further incentivize our core customers to order online.

Tell us about the back-end of your business. What tools and apps do you use to run your store? How do you handle shipping and fulfillment?

Shopify has been a crucial tool for fulfilling orders that we receive from all parts of the country. There are several regions where our products are not carried in retail locations and this is where Shopify helps greatly to fill the void.

We use a few plugins to further optimize Shopify like Wholesaler and abandon cart.

Our other most used app is ShipStation. This app has helped our business grow from shipping units out of our small home office, to outsourcing the shipments and logistics to a full time company.

What are your top recommendations for new ecommerce entrepreneurs?

Online campaigns involving hashtags and promotional codes with Shopify are one of the most fun and rewarding ways to get involved with your customer base. Utilize the Shopify mobile app to be fully engaged with all areas of your store where ever you are.

Creating clean and attractive photos of your products is extremely important.
