Shopify manages Rug & Home's large database of SKUs

Rug & Home is the ultimate destination for rugs, furniture, and home decor. From top name brands in home furnishings to one-of-a-kind treasures from around the globe, Rug & Home has an extremely eclectic mix of products. They offer fanatical customer service, expert design consultants, over 200,000 square feet of showroom space, and relationships with many of their suppliers that go back for generations. Rug & Home needed an online store that could organize and manage over 40,000 SKUs, and they found a solution with Shopify.

Choosing Shopify

I started trying to evaluate which platforms to put the site on and we honestly spent a lot of time going down the Magento route. We spent over 3 months exploring Magento and we were about a week away from signing up when we learnt about Shopify. I had heard of Shopify, but thought it was only designed for small stores. I didn’t really consider it to be an enterprise solution.

After discovering that Shopify Plus could successfully handle our list of site requirements we were convinced that we needed to be on this platform.

Managing SKUs

We needed an ecommerce platform that was going let us organize our large database of SKUs in a way that enables the user to easily find what product they’re looking for. So if you go to our database of rugs, you can easily sort our massive collection by style, by colour, by price, by shape and size – all the key things that we see our customers ask us in our stores. I love that we are able to organize and sort information in a way that allows it to be both easy for our customers to use and easy for us to manage the backend.

I love not having to worry about security or getting hacked.


There’s a massive segment of the market which consists of companies like ours that are not start-ups, but are brick and mortar businesses trying to build a robust ecommerce platform. I was initially hesitant to go with Shopify because I didn’t think that the platform could handle what we wanted to put it through. Of course it was a lot of work to get the site up and running, but now that we’re on here, it’s so easy to manage. Shopify is a beautiful solution.

Shopify Plus

It’s a level of comfort. I feel that Shopify Plus will go above and beyond to fix any issues that come up. I love that I have a dedicated account rep. I love that there’s a 24/7 helpline.

Working with Shopify Plus

Shopify Plus is very forward looking. They are always trying to improve, and they’ve built a great ecosystem around the product...everything from agencies to app development. For someone who wants to take something from zero to a very large business, I think Shopify is absolutely the right platform. I get to focus on what we do best, and the technology is completely taken care of.
